Water Damage

Steamway technicians are IICRC Certified so when water damage strikes the main goal is to get your property and contents dried out so your family or business can get back to normal. We customize our drying process to meet the needs of each individual situation.

(WATER DAMAGE—HOMEOWNERS )

When water damage strikes your home, the main goal is to get things dried out so your family can get back to normal.  Most companies use a standard drying process than can take days to eliminate all of the moisture.  Steamway has several options to choose from when it comes to removing water and drying carpets, furniture, walls and personal belongings.  We customize our drying process to meet the individual needs of the homeowner, and in most cases we can reduce your family’s time away from home and extra living expenses associated with a water disaster.

In the past, drying was done by simply opening all of the windows and using an industrial vacuum to remove standing water. Only a few decades ago the industry advanced to using air-moving fans to help speed drying, which is the process most commonly used today. Recently, more advanced and scientific methods have been developed and introduced, but not all companies have kept pace with these industry advancements.

Steamway offers you and your family the latest technologies and developments that are critical to meeting your needs and restoring your home.  We thoroughly explain the options available to you, the length of time each process will take, the cost involved, and the best solution for your water-damage problem.

Our goal is to provide you excellence in service at the best possible price.  We will work with your insurance company to ensure the right processes are used to restore your home to its pre-damaged condition.  Most importantly, we take time to salvage or protect the personal possessions that define your family and make your house your home.

(WATER DAMAGE—BUSINESSES)

Water damage to a business can be devastating.  Storefront or office closings usually mean a sharp reduction in income and profits.  When a business closes for any length of time, its impact is felt throughout the community.  Steamway’s mission is to partner with your business to dry the water and restore your facility as quickly as possible.

Steamway has several options to choose from when it comes to removing water and restoring your business.  We customize our drying process to meet the individual needs of the business, and in most cases we can substantially reduce downtime.

TRADITIONAL DRYING METHODS USED

• Drying hardwood floors may be as simple as letting them air dry.  Depending on the extent of the damage, they may need to be heat-dried or replaced.
• Walls, depending on the material, may have to be completely torn out. In cases of lighter damage, they may have heat injected into them or simply be air-dried.
• Flooring and carpet may have to be torn up completely and replaced.  In some cases, they can be dried in place.
• Furniture and personal property can be dried using several effective options, either onsite or at a separate facility.

STEAMWAY’S ALTERNATIVE METHODS

When heat accompanies air movement, the drying process is shortened.   The concept is similar to that of a clothes dryer.  Steamway applies heat with the most advanced equipment on the market—including infrared—which heats objects and not air.

PREVENTATIVE MEASURES

In most cases, water damage is preventable.  At the very least, its impact can be minimized by proper home maintenance. Routine inspections and timely repairs not only help improve the home’s value, but also they help protect your investment against the elements.

Moisture can ruin parts of the house by soaking carpets and staining walls. It can destroy electrical and utility systems. Once moisture starts to seep in through cracks in your home, it begins to depreciate the property’s value.  Once a building has been exposed to a large volume of water, it becomes extremely hazardous as water causes both health and structural risks.

Health Hazards and Risks Related to Water Damage:
• Dampness and humidity promote the growth of mold and mildew that can cause allergies, disease and even cancer.
• Floodwaters may be contaminated with raw sewage and other toxic wastes.
• Moisture also serves as a fertile breeding ground for bacteria and insects.

Structural Hazards and Risks Related to Water Damage:
• Wallboard disintegrates
• Structural integrity of concrete is compromised
• Support columns resting in waterlogged soil slowly twist and tilt
• Wood swells, warps, and rots
• Stairs, floors, and roofs may collapse
• Electrical systems can short out and cause fire or deadly shock
• Natural gas or propane leaks can lead to gas poisoning or fire

Household possessions and interior design can be damaged as follows:
• Mud and silt get possessions and valuables dirty
• Paint and wall coverings peel off
• Floor tiles are lifted
• Panels warp
• Carpets stain and rot
• Textiles and furnishings stain
• Books, photographs, and paintings disintegrate

Property value decreases after being wet. Most insulation is rendered ineffective, but it will create high moisture conditions which will damage metal, masonry, and wood.

Our goal is to provide you excellent service at a competitive price according to industry standards. We will work with your insurance company to ensure that they are up to date with your damage restoration. We are a preferred vendor of most major insurance companies. Most importantly, we take the time to salvage/protect your possessions. Visit our project gallery to see just a few of the jobs we’ve completed.

TES stands for Thermal Energy System and represents a practical way to implement a new understanding of the Science of Drying that will dry wet structures at least twice as fast as ever before!

Faster Drying Reduces Cost

There are two phases to restoring any water loss; mitigation and reconstruction (remove and replace or repair). Mitigating a water loss costs a fraction of the cost of replacing expensive structural materials like carpet, walls, insulation, flooring, cabinets, etc. A loss that is not mitigated quickly will result in a huge increase in the cost to restore the property to a pre-loss condition.

Faster Drying Prevents Secondary Damage

If not mitigated quickly and thoroughly, water losses will continue to get worse, a condition known as secondary damage. The most important secondary damage is mold growth with its attendant health hazards and increased liability for property owners.Other secondary damage includes swelling of wood structural materials, warping and cupping of hardwood floors, damage to other materials and contents as they are continuously exposed to moisture.
And, in gray and black water floods a whole host of disease causing viruses, bacteria and protozoa can flourish and cause very serious illnesses.

Faster Drying Means Happier Policyholders

A loss is a traumatic and often a once in a lifetime event. It is highly disruptive and results in a wide variety of negative experiences and emotions. Whether the insured is a home owner or a business owner, everyone wants to get life back to normal as quickly as possible.
A water loss can be devastating to busy homeowners, and businesses may be losing thousands of dollars per day in lost revenues.
The faster a loss is restored, the faster the homeowner or business is back to normal; furthermore, the faster you get life back to normal, the happier they'll be with your services!

Faster Drying Closes Claims Files Faster

Overloaded adjusters want to close claim files as fast as possible. By drying faster, less replacement is required, (replacement which can prolong the job for days, weeks and even months!) By drying faster, policyholders are back to normal in the shortest possible time and claim files are closed!
