Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning

For most homeowners, carpeting is one of the largest investments they make in their homes.  The warm, inviting feeling that comes from quality wall-to-wall carpeting usually requires an investment of several thousands of dollars.  Steamway understands the importance of regular carpet cleaning to protect your investment in your home and the health of your family.

Steamway use truck-mounted hot-water extraction—also known as “steam cleaning”—along with the most advanced detergent technology to clean your carpets and upholstery.  This method is far more effective in removing dirt, bacteria, and microscopic organisms that can threaten your carpet’s longevity, as well as your family’s health.

WHY SHOULD I CLEAN MY CARPET?

The primary reason to have your carpets cleaned regularly is to protect the health of your family.  Carpet acts like a filter by trapping soils, gases, dander, microorganisms, and airborne particles (such as dust, viruses and smoke).  These trapped pollutants are not eliminated with regular vacuuming.  Every time your children crawl across the bedroom, wrestle on the family-room floor, or spread out their sleeping bags for a birthday slumber party, they are directly exposed to every trapped pollutant in the carpet fibers.  Steam-cleaning will extract dirt, bacteria, and odors that cause allergies, spread viruses, and give your home a stale or “off” smell.

Regular carpet cleaning is also an economical way to protect your investment.  Today’s homeowners invest an average of $24.00 per yard in quality, durable carpeting.  Although well-vacuumed carpet may look clean, microscopic dirt is actually breaking down the carpet fibers and destroying the fiber coatings.  A single grain of sand has approximately 25 cutting edges that are tearing at the carpet fibers with every step.  Regularly steam-cleaning carpets will substantially reduce the wear damage to the carpet fibers, and it will protect the appearance and longevity of your investment.

Studies have shown that hot-water extraction is the best method to use for cleaning carpets and upholstery.  The high heat helps kill the living microorganisms trapped in the carpet fibers, and the extraction process is the most effective in removing contaminants and water.  An additional benefit to you and your family is that these contaminants are removed from the home entirely and disposed of by Steamway in a manner that is environmentally friendly and responsible.

CAN’T I JUST RENT A MACHINE FROM THE STORE?

Rented carpet-cleaning machines are one of the worst things for your carpet.  These machines pump water into the carpet, but they can’t get the water back out.  Your carpet can stay wet for days, which leaves it vulnerable to mold and mildew.  This also causes the carpet backing to break down.  Also, most of the chemicals used with these machines are very harsh and designed to cover a broad scope of dirt and stain issues with one product.  Along with removing the dirt, these products also tend to remove the color from about a third of the carpets currently on the market.

Steamway’s hot-water extraction process gets down to the backing of the carpet to extract dirt and pollutants.  Our machines are able to extract the majority of the water used in the cleaning process.  The small amount of water remaining in the carpet after cleaning dries naturally within 2-4 hours.

HOW SHOULD I CARE FOR MY CARPETS?

Routine vacuuming with a quality vacuum cleaner is the most important step you can take in protecting your investment.  This will prolong the life of your carpet and enhance its appearance.

Spills should be quickly cleaned and excess liquid blotted.  In most cases, the soiled area can be treated effectively with plain water or with a solution of mild dishwashing detergent well diluted in warm water.

Steamway does not recommend the use of deodorizing powders on carpeting.  The talcum powder used in these products is not water soluble and becomes embedded in the carpet fibers.  It is difficult to remove talcum powder with a vacuum cleaner or by steam cleaning.  When subjected to moisture, the powder rises to the carpet’s surface and leaves a white residue.
